WAIS in the UK and Ireland

WAIS-IV UK is available in the UK and supplied for English-language assessment in Ireland. WAIS-5 UK remains on pre-order with uncertain timing, so check its live status and provider adoption before booking.

WAIS-IV UK is available; WAIS-5 UK is still on pre-order

Pearson's WAIS-IV UK page lists the fourth UK edition as a Qualification Level C assessment for ages 16 years 0 months through 90 years 11 months. It is the currently available UK edition while the fifth UK edition is in transition.

As of 19 August 2026, the WAIS-5 UK product page remains on pre-order. Pearson pages give August and late 2026 timing, so treat WAIS-IV UK as the available local edition unless the live product status and provider confirm that WAIS-5 UK has been released and adopted.

WAIS-IV UK uses VCI, PRI, WMI, and PSI. WAIS-5 separates visual-spatial and fluid-reasoning domains, so PRI from an older report should not be relabelled as VSI or FRI.

Choose the professional route separately in the UK and Ireland

In the UK, the Health and Care Professions Council regulates protected practitioner-psychologist titles, including Clinical Psychologist, Educational Psychologist, and Counselling Psychologist. Match the professional's registration and experience to the purpose of the assessment.

For Ireland, Pearson's international ordering information directs customers to Pearson Clinical UK for English (UK) assessments. This makes WAIS-IV UK an available supply route, but not an Ireland-specific edition or normative sample. The provider should name the exact UK edition and norms and explain their fit to the person and purpose.

CORU is preparing statutory registers for clinical, counselling, educational, and other psychologists in Ireland. Until the applicable register and title rules are in force, ask the provider to state their current qualification, professional standing, WAIS experience, and responsibility for the report, and use CORU's regulation update to check the current stage.

Before booking in either country, confirm the full edition and norms, who administers, interprets, and signs, what the report includes, the assessment-to-report dates and total quote, and any requirements set by the intended recipient.

Compare the assessment package, including any remote method

A UK private provider has published GBP 750 for a WAIS-IV UK adult cognitive assessment and GBP 1,500 for an urgent report. This is one provider example, not a national price, an NHS tariff, or an Irish estimate.

Use an Irish provider's local quote rather than transferring the UK example. In either country, compare intake, assessment, feedback, report, recipient forms, and urgent work through the WAIS cost guide.

Pearson publishes professional telepractice guidance for WAIS-IV UK. It helps a qualified professional judge administration conditions; it is not an invitation to complete WAIS alone online.

The same distinction applies in Ireland when UK materials and professional digital systems are used. For a remote or mixed session, confirm who administers it live, how modified conditions will be recorded, and whether the intended recipient accepts the report.

The WAIS online guide explains this distinction in more detail.

For the professional route and score meanings, use how to take the WAIS and what WAIS measures. If membership is the only goal, use the British Mensa guide or Irish Mensa guide first.
