2027 is the earliest credible window for WAIS-5 Canadian
2027 is the earliest realistic commercial window for WAIS-5 Canadian. For practical planning, expect WAIS-IV Canadian to remain the locally normed edition through most of 2027. If you need an assessment before then, book WAIS-IV Canadian rather than waiting for WAIS-5 Canadian.
Some Canadian psychologists can already use the US WAIS-5 when they decide that US norms fit the person and purpose. It uses US norms; WAIS-5 Canadian will provide the separate Canadian standardisation. What to book in Canada now explains the edition choice.
Standardisation must finish before a Canadian edition can launch
The US WAIS-5 launched in 2024. Pearson then began a distinct WAIS-5 Canadian standardisation study, collecting Canadian data under uniform conditions to create local norms. The study was still publicly recruiting and described as in progress in September 2026.
After data collection, Pearson must check the sample, construct age norms, complete reliability and validity work, prepare the manuals and scoring system, and manufacture the product. That remaining sequence places the first realistic commercial window in 2027.
BrainTypeIQ already shows a five-domain cognitive profile
WAIS-5 separates Verbal Comprehension, Visual Spatial, Fluid Reasoning, Working Memory, and Processing Speed. BrainTypeIQ also uses nine tasks to show Gc, Gf, Gv, Gwm, and Gs online now, together with overall IQ.
WAIS-IV and WAIS-5 compared explains the edition change, and the nine-task design explains how the five BrainTypeIQ domains are measured.
