When arranging an assessment yourself in the United States, contact a licensed psychologist or neuropsychologist who conducts adult cognitive assessment. If price matters more than speed, a university psychology clinic can be a lower-cost alternative when its intake criteria and training calendar fit your needs.
- For diagnosis, treatment planning, disability, or accommodation documentation, choose a clinician whose assessment scope and signed report meet that purpose. Insurance or a health-system route may require a clinical indication, referral, network provider, or prior authorization.
- For a cognitive profile and professional interpretation, a private licensed psychologist can usually be contacted directly.
- University clinics use supervised trainees and may offer substantially lower fees, but places, eligible cases, report scope, and turnaround are limited.

WAIS-5 is taken with a psychologist, and the report comes later
WAIS-5 is the current US edition, published in 2024. Confirm which edition the psychologist uses before booking because individual practices migrate on different schedules.
The usual flow is: clarify the purpose and report requirements, complete an intake, take the supervised test one-to-one, then wait while the psychologist scores and interprets the results. Feedback and the signed report follow. The overall assessment process may include interviews, breaks, and other tests, so the publisher's subtest administration time is not the total service time.
