Check the price and the evidence before the questions
Before starting an online IQ test, find out whether access to the result is a one-time purchase or the start of a recurring subscription. Then check how the test turns answers into an IQ score and whose data provide the comparison.
Online search results and social ads place free puzzle quizzes, one-time paid reports, recurring subscriptions, and tests with published psychometric evidence under the same label. The questions and interface alone cannot tell you what you are buying or how strongly to read the result.
A low initial payment can lead into recurring billing
The price beside a “view my result” button may be only a trial charge. Read the payment screen, pricing page, and terms together for the initial charge, trial period, renewal amount and frequency, and cancellation method. If those terms are not clear before card details are entered, do not assume the payment is a one-time purchase.

Words such as “official,” “scientifically validated,” “most accurate,” and “certified” are useful only when the service identifies who recognizes the result, for what purpose, and which sample and method support the claim. A score of 130 or 140 still needs context
A single online result of 130 or 140 may reflect a real strength, but it can also look high because the tasks favour one ability, the test is short, the norm group or conversion differs, similar questions are familiar, or unsupervised conditions vary. A high percentile or certificate is weak evidence without the norm group, conversion method, and measurement error. If several sites give different results, compare what each measured, who supplied the reference data, and the testing conditions rather than averaging the scores.
Measurement quality is more than setting the average to 100
A meaningful standardized score requires consistent administration and scoring, an identified comparison group, tasks that cover the reported abilities, and evidence about reliability, error, and interpretation.
